Maintaining Good Health Even When You're Busy

3 Effective Measures For A Restful Night Of Sleep

by Caitlin Obara

If you're like many Americans who struggle to sleep, waking up fatigued and moody may be a constant struggle. You don't have to keep living this way, fortunately. These tips will ensure you get restful sleep and wake up the next day feeling rejuvenated.

Analyze Your Room

What many sleep-deprived individuals fail to realize is that their room may actually be the culprit. For optimal sleep results, your room needs to be kept at a specific temperature zone. Temperatures that are too cool or too hot may leave you tossing and turning.

The bedroom also needs to be quiet. If you can hear traffic from outside, consider setting up triple-pane glass on your bedroom windows. It features exceptional sound-insulating properties. Or, you could play some tranquil music to block out unwanted noise, such as sounds of trickling water or majestic animal noises from the rain forest. Just make sure the music isn't too loud that it disturbs your sleep cycle.

Replace the Mattress

Your mattress goes through a lot of abuse over the years. After a while, it may begin to sag on one side or not be as cushioning. Then, you can't possibly find a comfortable position to sleep throughout the night. Get your normal sleep routine back by replacing your mattress.

There are many great mattress options available today, including memory foam and inner-spring. Just make sure you consult with your doctor first. They can recommend a specific mattress designed for your particular sleep ailments. Be sure to try their recommendation out in person, as well, to make sure it's comfortable and fully supports your body.

Take Sleep Medicine

If nothing seems to fix your sleep problems, you can always consult with a doctor and get prescribed sleep medication. This form of medicine works quickly, so you don't have to spend hours looking at the ceiling and counting sheep. Its side-effects are also well-known, and your doctor will make sure you know about them in-depth before handing out a prescription.

It's important to let your doctor know of any other medications you're currently on. They could counteract the sleep medicine's intended use, after all. Lastly, follow the sleep medication's directions exactly and never drink alcohol when you're about to take a dose.

Failing to sleep soundly throughout the night can lead to numerous problems, such as negatively impacting your professional and personal life. You can break the cycle, though, by understanding the root cause of your sleep deprivation. Then, you can take the appropriate measures to get your sleep cycle back to where it should be.
